As we continue the countdown to the 2026 NORA Motorsport Team Event at Foxhill Moto Parc on September 5th & 6th. We caught up with Russell Watts, Chairman and Team Manager for Southerly MXC who is looking forward to this years event once again and with the goal of going into the team event for the title for the another year and making it their fourth year in a row taking the prestigious title.

Here is what Russell had to say.
How do you feel about competing in the NORA Motorsport Team Event, and what does it mean to your team?
“The team event is a very special event for everyone involved. I remember myself the feeling and excitement of being picked to ride and riding in the team event for my club it was very memorable events back in the good old days. Myself, My family, Friends, committee and riders have competed in a lot of Team Events over the years so there’s a lot of experience in our ranks but that doesn’t mean the nerves go away.”
How do you prepare your riders to perform as a team rather than as individuals like racing at other events?
“Getting the riders to perform as a team rather than individuals is easy because it’s what we have at our club. Brothers, sisters, parents and friends all racing and competing. The riders push each other on every race, everyone gets cheered on and each camp helps each other whether that’s with knowledge, spare parts or use of a spare bike when people are in need.”
What excites you most about bringing your team to this event?
“Seeing the riders in our club team colours at the Team Event gives us a massive sense of pride because as the years have passed and riders step up to bigger bikes (and excel) we’ve had some names that have been mainstays within the Team selection. The riders know our top championship riders get picked so early on in the Championship there is already a buzz, even the Vets ask questions!”
What would you like to see from your team by the end of the event?
“I just want my riders to go out try their best and enjoy which I know they will. All my team riders always put 100% and make us proud at the club. They are 3 times Team Event winners, they understand what it takes and know how it feels being at top of the podium. No matter what happens out on track I know they won’t give up and will keep trying.”
Are there any special mentions or thanks to sponsors of your team you wish to share?
“To everyone involved the whole team past and present, all my family, committee and sponsors. Plus a special mention for Harvey James, who has rode for me the past 10 years in every Team Event I’ve competed in. The Dennis family, always helping with spare parts and fixing of bikes. Their boys have been incredible riders for us. We are ready to try and defend the title for the 4th time, bring it on and see you all at Foxhills.”
