NORA CRS DEVELOPMENT TEAM: MAY ROUND-UP!

May proved to be an incredibly busy month for the team, with back-to-back events that brought a mix of strong results, riders returning confidently from injury, and unfortunately a few riders sustaining injuries along the way. Despite the challenges, the team comes out of May on a high and ready to take on June with momentum and confidence.

2nd and 3rd May

The first weekend of May saw the whole team head down to Landrake Moto Park for Round 1 of the NORA92 British Cup Championship, marking our first event with a new and improved full team setup.

Our Small Wheel riders, Ronnie and Rafe, opened their seasons strongly, maintaining top-ten race results in most of their motos. Ronnie even managed a holeshot is Moto 3 and finished 9th overall and Rafe 10th overall, with both boys’ earning prize money to kick off the year.

In the Big Wheel group, the boys experienced a real mix of highs and lows. Freddie delivered a consistent weekend with results of 4th, 6th, 4th and 11th, securing the team’s highest overall finish in 5th. Jesse, meanwhile, had a tough time at Landrake, feeling as though everything that could go wrong did, but he kept pushing through the challenges.

Seb finished just behind Freddie in 6th overall. After a chain issue in Race 2 held him back — though he still managed to finish — he came out swinging in Moto 4, taking an incredible race win. Not only was this Seb’s first British Cup race win, it was also the first ever British Cup race win for the NORA CRS Development Team, making it a standout moment for everyone.

Our Youth riders also had a successful weekend, securing valuable championship points in what is, without doubt, an incredibly strong class for 2026. Ollie and Theo both came away with top-20 overall finishes, showing great promise for the season ahead.

While the team were all at Landrake, NORA CRS-supported rider Brett Wilkinson was on the world stage at the second round of the FIM Sidecarcross World Championship in the Czech Republic. Race One brought frustration after mechanical issues forced an early retirement, but Brett and his passenger came back strong in Race Two, delivering an impressive 4th-place finish and putting themselves right back where they needed to be.

It was a great season opener and brilliant to have the whole team together — even better having Aiden with us to support his teammates despite his ongoing injury.

9th and 10th May

This weekend saw the team separated and at several events across the country.

Freddie and Ronnie headed Little Silver with Southerly MXC!

Freddie opened the weekend with a strong run in Race 1, holding 3rd after an early mistake. Race 2 was a full comeback ride after hitting the gate left him dead last, charging all the way back to 3rd. He backed it up with another solid P3 in Race 3, securing 3rd overall for the weekend.

Ronnie started the day strong, taking the win in Race 1 after an early lead. He backed it up in Race 2 with another holeshot — plus a £25 bonus — and a confident flag-to-flag P1. Race 3 brought another holeshot, but a stall on lap two dropped him down the order, fighting back to 5th. The mistake cost him the overall, but he still finished a solid 2nd overall with plenty of positives to take forward.

Jesse headed to Waterstone for Round 7 of the Cotswold Championship, where two big crashes and ongoing bike issues made it a tough day. After a huge first-corner crash in Race 1 and more problems in Races 2 and 3 — including a rock to the helmet and a blown spark plug — he pushed through to finish 9th overall, holding onto 4th in the Championship. A gritty effort on a weekend where nothing came easy.

Ollie, Rafe and Seb headed to Oxford Moto Marc to race with Mecca-X, a new venue for Ollie and Seb and the second time for Rafe, who unfortunately came away with a broken collarbone!

Ollie had two practices and one race, with a solid start before getting caught in another rider’s crash and finishing 38th. Cooler weather on Sunday helped, and after a strong practice, he fought from dead last to 18th in Race 2, then worked through the pack again to take 16th in Race 3. He finished 7th in the 250 class and 22nd overall in the combined 125/250 youth, ending the weekend pleased with his riding and the track.

Seb spent practice learning the layout before qualifying 7th. Race 1 brought a poor start and a small crash, but he made good passes to finish 7th. On Sunday Seb took 8th in Race 2 after running 7th for most of the moto, then finished 7th again in Race 3 with solid pace and steady riding. A decent weekend overall with a few things to keep working on.

16th and 17th May

While most of the team either had a well-deserved weekend off or for some being out due to injury. Ronnie headed to Walkterstone with Severn Valley, practice day on Saturday and Round 6 of their Club Championship on Sunday. After enjoying Saturday’s motos and getting comfortable on the 85, Sunday brought a tough start with a first-corner crash in Race 1, but he fought all the way back to P2. He then took a holeshot and led Race 2 from start to finish, followed by another holeshot and a close P2 in Race 3 on a rough, rutted track. A strong weekend overall, finishing 2nd overall and feeling confident about what to work on next.

23rd, 24th & 25th May

The second May Bank holiday saw three team members head to Mildenhall for the return of MX Master Kids after two years and it was a hot one!

Jesse had a tough but valuable learning weekend, battling brutal heat, deep ruts and thick dust. After qualifying 21st, he struggled in Race 1 but bounced back with strong rides in Races 2 and 3, finishing 22nd and 19th as confidence on the new bike grew. A crash in Race 4 and a choke-on mistake in Race 5 made the final results harder, ending 29th overall, but the progress was clear

Ollie took to Mildenhall for the first time and qualified 10th after two sessions. In Race 1 he struggled with a slow start, then improved in Race 2 with consistent laps to finish 13th overall and 5th in the 250 class. Sunday was hotter, but he rode well in the re-run of Race 3 and carried that momentum into Monday, battling for 4th before finishing 5th in class. It was a strong weekend overall, ending 6th in the 250 class and feeling positive about his riding.

Max returned to racing at Mildenhall after seven weeks off, qualifying 23rd before pushing through to 16th in Race 1. Sunday brought a pile-up in Race 2 (P19) and another strong ride to 16th in Race 3. He held 15th all the way in Race 4, then matched it again on Monday with his fastest lap of the weekend. He finished 16th overall, just outside his top-15 goal but a solid step forward in confidence and race pace.

Meanwhile, Ronnie headed to Wroxton for Round 3 of the Plews Tyres British Masters and faced a tough, scorching weekend. He qualified 3rd, then battled through difficult starts to take 6th in both opening races. Day two was even hotter, with a hit gate in Race 3 (P8) and a stall in the final moto leaving him last by half a lap, pushing back to 11th. Despite the setbacks, he banked solid championship points and now sits just three points off 3rd place.

30th and 31st May

The final weekend in May saw the team reunited once again for Round 2 of the NORA92 British Cup Championship at Hawkstone, and while it was great to have everyone together, we certainly missed Rafe, Seb and Theo who are currently out with injuries!

Ronnie qualified 7th and opened with a strong ride to P9. A clutch issue made Race 2 tough, but Ronnie still held on for another 9th. A mechanical on the line meant jumping onto the 65 for Race 3, fighting back to 20th from dead last. In the final race he rode his best of the weekend, charging to 10th. They finished 11th overall, only a few points off 9th, and came away with solid championship points and plenty of positives to build on.

Max had a solid track walk with the NORA CRS team and Joe Clayton before qualifying 20th. Race 1 brought a tough concrete start and a wrong line choice for 23rd, followed by another difficult start in Race 2 but a stronger ride to 22nd. On Sunday he kept pushing, taking 24th in Race 3 and finishing the weekend with his best result — 19th in Race 4. He ended the round 21st overall, knowing fitness needs work but taking clear positives from the progress made.

Freddie was buzzing to race the iconic Hawkstone sand after a week of prep in Belgium. A strong track walk with Joe Clayton and the team helped him settle in. Race 1 was on track for a top-10 until a small tip-off dropped him to P17, but he came back flying in Race 2, starting 4th and finishing an impressive 6th. Day two brought more drama — a first-corner collision in Race 3 left him dead last, yet he charged all the way back to 17th. He wrapped up the weekend with a smooth, confident P8 in Race 4, finishing 10th overall after two tough motos.

Jesse battled classic Hawkstone conditions — deep sand, big bumps and a stacked class. Early laps showed the bike needed setup changes, but each tweak helped as the track roughened. A loose spark-plug cap caused a misfire in one moto, and later the heavy sand finished the clutch, ending the day early. Even with the issues, his pace improved every session, and he gained valuable experience on one of the UK’s toughest tracks. He’ll rebuild and come back stronger next time.

Ollie had a strong training session with Joe at Apex a head of Hawkstone ready to race. He qualified 22nd, then rode well in Race 1 and improved again in Race 2 with a solid 18th. Wet conditions in Race 3 suited him, and a great start helped him finish 19th. Race 4 was another smooth, consistent ride. He enjoyed the track all weekend, took plenty of positives!

While the team were at Hawkstone, Brett Wilkinson was at Canada Heights for the British Round of the FIM Sidecarcross World Championship. A win in the Qualifying race set him up perfectly for Sunday. He started Heat 1 in 4th, charged through the field and took the lead with four laps to go — securing his first heat win in over a year. In Heat 2 he started 3rd and, despite the track going against a left-hand sidecar, held strong for a top-three finish. That gave him 2nd overall for the weekend. Brett now sits 5th in the World Championship, just one point off 4th and six off 3rd.
